Aerospace Manufacturing Conference Comes to Charleston

LOS ANGELES, CA, Nov. 8 – Penton Media's SpeedNews today announced the launch of its "Aerospace Manufacturing Conference" to address a wide range of business and operational topics affecting the timely delivery of products and services across the aerospace industry supply chain, and promote an open dialogue among industry thought-leaders to innovate practical, sustainable solutions.

The new event, the sixth addition to the SpeedNews Conferences portfolio, will be held April 9-10, 2013 at the Charleston Place in Charleston, SC. The event is being produced in partnership with the Charleston Regional Development Alliance (CRDA), and in association with Penton's IndustryWeek, the leading source of business information and insight for manufacturing industry professionals.

"When we launched our 'Aerospace Raw Materials & Manufacturers Conference' in 2011, we also uncovered demand for deeper knowledge of how to better align manufacturing and the supply chain," said Joanna Speed, managing director of SpeedNews Conferences. "Our new Aerospace Manufacturing Conference responds with a dynamic, face-to-face forum focused on helping industry professionals gain critical insights that can improve their operations."

The decision to debut the event in South Carolina recognizes the state's growing influence as an aerospace manufacturing base. More than 180 aerospace engineering companies, including design firms, service providers, and distributors employ more than 20,000 people in the state.

"South Carolina is a great place to do business. It's also a great place to host an international conference related to one of our state's major industries. The aerospace industry is solid in our state, and we want more businesses to locate here," said South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. "I am excited to participate and welcome aerospace industry experts from around the world to our great state next spring."

Delegates attending the SpeedNews Aerospace Manufacturing Conference will learn about the latest manufacturing products and software technologies to improve productivity and profitability for their operations. The agenda will cover a wide range of topics including design, advanced materials, engineering, technology, equipment, components, tooling and machining. These capabilities are central to the industry, and have played a significant role in fueling South Carolina's aerospace economy.

"Partnering with SpeedNews to help launch the Aerospace Manufacturing Conference is a fantastic way to showcase the Charleston region as a business destination, and its growing aerospace cluster and assets as leaders in the global aerospace industry," said David Ginn, CRDA President & CEO.

Aircraft Mock-ups Emerge from Gulfstream’s 3D CAVE

Simulations may be increasingly taking advantage of HPC to become more and more sophisticated, but the way those mountains of data are displayed don’t always keep up in terms of staying on the cutting edge. But one avenue for reviewing digital designs, called a cave automatic virtual environment (CAVE), looks to be making up for this trend by combining engineers’ modeling information with virtual reality.

Understanding Fluid Flow in Microchannels

The ability to control fluid streams at microscale is of great importance in many domains such as biological processing, guiding chemical reactions, and creating structured materials. Recently, it has been discovered that placing pillars of different dimensions, and at different offsets, allows fluid transformations to “sculpt” fluid streams.
