Ministry of Transportation Ontario to Standardize on Bentley’s Power InRoads as New Transportation Design Solution


EXTON, Pa., March 22 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced that the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) has selected Power InRoads as its new transportation design solution. MTO is the first transportation agency worldwide to standardize on Bentley’s new stand-alone offering of the InRoads family of products. Power InRoads includes the InRoads Suite, the drafting and document production capabilities of MicroStation, Bentley Map functionality, and seamless interoperation with the ProjectWise V8i system of collaboration servers and services and Bentley Navigator V8i software for dynamic project review. Power InRoads will enable MTO to more efficiently and cost-effectively develop and sustain its transportation infrastructure both now and for years to come.

MTO’s Head of Highway Engineering Systems, Hanna Hanna, said, “Power InRoads will help MTO to have fully integrated drafting and design tools in a single application that is easy to deploy and includes new functionality such as roundabout design, site modeler, advanced visualization and animation techniques, and integrated map/GIS capability.”

Power InRoads empowers civil engineering professionals and the agencies they serve with proven technology in a single, advanced civil engineering information modeling and design product. The software’s full spectrum of easy-to-use tools complements MTO’s existing workflows with capabilities for survey data reduction and analysis, map analysis and production, transportation design automation, and team collaboration in a total-project context. The software’s user-friendly, single-installation/upgrade will eliminate CAD-application synchronization issues and reduce the need for training, saving MTO time and money.

Having previously used InRoads on AutoCAD for 10 years, MTO is well acquainted with the strengths and versatility of InRoads software – the design standard for 26 U.S. departments of transportation and seven ministries of transportation in the Canadian provinces. MTO’s upgrade to Power InRoads propels agency-supported technology beyond traditional layered applications and embraces innovative design flexibility and product integration now driving the future of transportation.

NVIDIA Revs Up Tesla GPU

GPU maker NVIDIA has ratcheted up the core count and clock speed on its Tesla GPU processor. The new M2090 module for servers delivers 665 double precision gigaflops, representing close to a 30 percent increase over the previous generation Tesla part. The memory bandwidth on the device was bumped up as well, from 150 GB/second to 178 GB/second. The new GPU boosts performance significantly across a number of HPC codes.
